Ugly Numbers for Philadelphia

Oh well, at least we have the cheesesteak, hoagie, and tastykakes. Of course, this could also be part of the problem.

Poor Philadelphia. “Looking for attractive people? Don’t go to …” was the headline on a Reuters article about Philly’s last-place ranking for attractiveness among 25 U.S. cities in a recent magazine survey. MSNBC and Yahoo also ran the Reuters article. One blogger headlined his report, “City of Brotherly Ughs.” And a News Journal blog from nearby Wilmington, Del., asked, “Are they calling us ugly?”

Philadelphians can rest easy, and not only because their restaurants ranked in the top 5. The survey of frequent travelers, run by American Express magazine Travel & Leisure and co-sponsored by CNN Headline News, is far from a scientific comparison of the bone structure and facial symmetry of urban dwellers.
